As for the news thing, on one hand I’ve become a more generous person and I’ve given to many charities just to feel like I’m doing something, but on the other hand I have only so much money to throw whenever I feel anxious about the headlines, not all self-proclaimed charities are legitimate or use donation money effectively, and many news sites and especially cable news channels are extremely biased and opinionated, creating more division and irrational fear of others with different worldviews rather than convincing people to unite and give more because that constant negativity is somehow more profitable than “good news.” It’s a tricky balancing act, since most of the time it’s just Twitter-inspired toxicity or even specifically about Twitter dramas that have no bearing on the real world, but there are also certain things that actually do concern me and, more importantly, give me trustworthy methods of actually helping, if only as a charitable outsider.


Admittedly I would tune out the news entirely like I did pre-COVID outside of truly consequential stuff that everyone will be talking about, anyway, once all these mask and social distancing protocols stop changing on an almost-weekly basis.
